Frozen Peas: Vegan Cooking Guide
Frozen peas are one of the most nutritious convenience vegetables available - frozen within hours of picking, they retain more vitamins than fresh peas that have been sitting on a shelf for days. Their bright green colour, natural sweetness and quick cook time make them a brilliant addition to pasta, rice, soups and curries.
How to Use Frozen Peas
Add direct from frozen to hot dishes in the last 2 - 3 minutes of cooking - they need almost no time. For a quick side, pour boiling water over frozen peas and leave for 2 minutes, then drain.
Nutrition
Good source of plant protein (5g/100g), vitamin C, vitamin K and folate; relatively low in calories.
Chef's Tips
- Don't overcook peas - they lose their vivid colour and sweet flavour within minutes of the colour changing from bright to olive.
- Blitz with mint, lemon juice and olive oil for a quick, vibrant pea and mint dip or spread.
- Peas pair beautifully with mint, lemon, tarragon and basil - any fresh herb works well.
